With less than two years in situ, 35% of internal communications professionals are already actively searching for a new position. This figure is equal to professionals with tenures of over ten years.

According to new Staffbase research, 35% of new internal communications professionals with less than two years in situ are already looking for a new job. This figure is equal to professionals with tenures of over ten years, and then surges to 40% for those with tenures of four-to-five years. This comes as further findings from the report show UK internal communications professionals as being paid well below the global average.

Staffbase’s second annual Internal Communications Salary Report shows that the average salary of UK internal communications professionals is roughly £47,700. This compares with an average salary of £87,500 for the same role in the U.S, and 80,000 in Canada. Over 1,000 global communicators participated in the study.

Despite 91% of survey respondents claiming ‘culture’ to be the most important factor in job satisfaction, one out of every four communicators do not work within a dedicated communications team.

The research was conducted by Staffbase, in partnership with communications agency Brilliant Ink, between July and August 2022, and involved in-house communications professionals predominantly from the UK, U.S, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
